Two hurt in 'paramilitary' shooting

Two men have been injured in a paramilitary-style attack by three masked men.

A 19-year-old was shot in the leg during the incident in west Belfast at 8pm on Friday night, close to garages at Culmore Gardens.

A 23-year-old suffered a slight injury to his leg after an attempt was made to shoot him in a similar way.

The attack has been condemned by local councillor Tim Attwood, who branded it a "pointless attack with a pointless outcome".

"We cannot keep going on like this and waking up to another shooting every weekend," he said.

"This is simply achieving nothing. It's putting lives at risk and tarnishing the name of west Belfast in the eyes of the wider public.

"I urge anybody with information about those responsible to contact the police."

The Police Service of Northern Ireland has appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
