Two hurt in road smash with tractor

By Allan Preston

Two people were injured yesterday evening after a tractor and another vehicle crashed on the Belfast road at Larne.

The crash occurred just after 8pm on the Belfast-bound lane of the A8, with the force of the collision forcing the tractor onto its roof.

John McPoland from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said two crews were dispatched to the scene at 8.10pm.

At the scene one person was treated for head injuries and the other for chest injuries.

One patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast and the other to Antrim Area Hospital.

The PSNI closed the busy stretch of road in both directions for a short period and fire crews also attended.

A second Co Antrim crash involving one vehicle also took place at around 8pm yesterday in Ballymena.

The Old Cullybackey Road was closed for a short period to recover one vehicle.
