Two north Belfast projects have been successful in getting over the first hurdle for European funding.
Of the four bids submitted by Belfast City Council to the Special EU Programmes Body, only two have been shortlisted — Giants Park Sports Village and the Girdwood Community Hub.
North Belfast MLA Gerry Kelly said: “This is great news for the whole of the north Belfast community. I want to praise all of those that have worked together to advance these two major regeneration projects. It's a clear example of how when we act collectively delivery can be within our grasp.”
The economic appraisal stage is rigorous and will take around eight to 12 weeks after which a recommendation will go to the SEUPB monitoring panel.
