By Rebecca Black

Two men have been arrested in Antrim after attempted armed robberies at a pharmacy, shop, off-licence and takeaway restaurant.

The arrests happened after the businesses were targeted during a crime spree in the Fountain Hill area of the town on Saturday afternoon.

One of the men is 27 years of age, while the second is 21.

Both were taken into custody by police for questioning yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Peter Crothers made an appeal for any witnesses to come forward.

"The males aged 27 and 21 were detained following attempts to rob an off-licence and a shop in Greystones Shopping Centre, a fast food restaurant in Fountain Hill, and a knifepoint robbery at a pharmacy, also in Fountain Hill, between 1pm and 2.55pm," he said.

"We are keen to hear from witnesses or anyone with information regarding these crimes.

"Detectives can be contacted at the offices of Antrim reactive and organised crime by calling 101."
