Two men are remanded as three hurt in stab incident

By Michael Donnelly

Two Fermanagh men have been remanded into custody after three men were stabbed in the early hours of Saturday.

In the dock at Enniskillen Magistrates Court were Brendan McLaughlin (26) of Tempo Road in Tempo, and Peter Smith (26) of Sycamore Drive, Enniskillen.

McLaughlin faces two counts of attempting to murder two of the men, and a third of causing grievous bodily harm to a third. Smith is accused of causing GBH to one man, and both face a charge of entering a property in Trasna Way, Lisnaskea, as trespassers.

District judge Nigel Broderick heard that McLaughlin had been injured as a result of the incident. A detective constable claimed that she could connect both men to the charges. She added that McLaughlin had given two "no comment" interviews to police.

Mr Broderick remanded McLaughlin into custody for four weeks and Smith for two weeks, when he is expected to apply for bail.

The three alleged victims required hospital treatment but none are thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
