Two men have been arrested by police investigating the murder of a prominent loyalist in Northern Ireland.

George Gilmore, 44, was driving in his car when he was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday afternoon. He died in hospital on Tuesday.

He added: "The men, aged 35 and 28, have been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite where they are currently assisting police with their enquiries."

Another bullet was found lodged in an occupied house in a residential area of the Co Antrim town north of Belfast, police said.
