Two men arrested over Jim Donegan murder released unconditionally by detectives

PACEMAKER BELFAST 04/12/2018 Police are at the scene of a shooting in west Belfast. It's understood a man has been seriously injured. It happened at Glen Road close to St Mary's Grammar School shortly after 15:00 GMT on Tuesday. Children from nearby schools had just finished their day and faced disruption as buses were diverted. Two men arrested by detectives investigating the murder of Jim Donegan have been released unconditionally.

The men, aged 49 and 51, were arrested on Wednesday evening after searches in the west Belfast area.

Mr Donegan, who was 43, had been waiting in his red sports car outside the gates of St Mary's Grammar School on the Glen Road when a lone gunman approached his vehicle and opened fire shortly after 3pm on Tuesday.

He died instantly at the scene.

Detectives released CCTV of the suspected gunman fleeing from the scene after shooting Mr Donegan eight times, including at least one shot in the head.
