Two men arrested under Terrorism Act after van stopped in Lurgan

Two men have been arrested in Lurgan under the Terrorism Act after the discovery of a number of items in a van.

The pair, aged 29 and 48, were arrested under section 41 of the Act after police searched the van they were travelling in on Wednesday night.

Detective Inspector Fitzpatrick said: "The van was stopped at Levin Road in Lurgan at around 10pm last night [Wednesday] and a number of items were seized for further examination.

"A number of follow up searches have been carried out in the Lurgan area today [Thursday]. Both men are currently at the Serious Crime Suite at Musgrave Police Station where they are being questioned.”

Section 41 of the Terrorism Act allows a constable to arrest someone he or she reasonably suspects of being a terrorist, without having to obtain a warrant.
