Two men charged over haul of cannabis

By Staff Reporter

Two men have been charged with drug dealing offences after the seizure of cannabis with a street value in excess of £400,000.

The men, aged 40 and 50, have been charged with offences including cultivating cannabis, possession of class B drugs and possession with intent to supply, as well as stealing electricity.

The charges come after police raided a cannabis factory in Carricknakielt Lane, Magherafelt, earlier this week.

The 50-year-old man has also been charged with similar offences after the discovery of a major cannabis factory in Carrickmore in September 2014.

Meanwhile, cannabis with a street value of £225,000 has been seized in a search in south Down.

One man was arrested yesterday in the Annalong operation. The man, aged in his 60s, remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Keith Gawley said: "This operation has taken a substantial amount of drugs out of circulation and reduced the harm they cause to communities."
