Two men injured in Newtownards assault - masked men smashed window and door of house

Two men have been injured following an assault during an aggravated burglary in Newtownards.

It happened in the Shackleton Walk area on Thurdsay night.

A number of masked men armed with weapons attacked a property in the area and smashed the window and damaged the door.

Two men who were in the property at the time were assaulted. One man sustained an injury to his arm while the second suffered an injury to his wrist.

Two vehicles parked close to the property also sustained damage during the incident.

Chief Inspector Gerry McGrath said: “This was a savage attack, and a frightening ordeal for the occupants of the house.

"I want to condemn this type of so-called street justice in the strongest terms. There is never any justification for this violent anti-community behaviour by criminals, which only serves to strike fear into the heart of our communities.

"I am appealing for anyone who was in the Shackleton Walk area around 9:40pm last night and saw any suspicious activity, or to anyone who knows anything about this incident to contact detectives in Bangor on the non emergency number 101, quoting reference 1430 of 16/11/17.

"Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
