Two men were remanded into custody on charges connected to the seizure of up to £240,000 worth of cannabis.

Police said the drugs were recovered during searches in north and south Belfast on Monday.

Chinese nationals Ye Feng, 42, of Mountcollyer Avenue in the city, and 44-year-old Neng Gan Chen, of no fixed abode, appeared together at Belfast Magistrates' Court.

Both men are charged with conspiracy to supply and possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

They are also jointly accused of having a false identity document, namely a passport.

Feng faces a further count of entering the UK lawfully but remaining without leave beyond the time allowed.

Neither defendant applied for bail during the brief hearing.

District Judge Peter King remanded them in custody to appear again by video-link on July 23.
