Two officers injured after patrol car crashes at accident black spot

Two police officers were taken to hospital last night after the car they were travelling in crashed between Coleraine and Portrush.

The accident happened at a notorious black spot on the Gateside Road around 8.30pm.

No other vehicle was involved in the crash, and it is understood the officers were not responding to an emergency call. The two officers — one male and one female — were treated by ambulance crew at the scene for minor injuries and shock. They were then taken to the nearby Causeway Hospital. The road was closed for several hours.

An onlooker said: “There’s a very bad bend and to be honest, they were lucky to escape with just some minor injuries.”
