Two people injured in separate stabbing incidents at east Belfast interface

Two people have been injured in separate stabbing incidents close to a sectarian interface in east Belfast.

Police received a report of a man being stabbed in Madrid Street at around 3.35pm yesterday.

He has been taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.

And on Tuesday shortly before midnight, a man was assaulted in the Mountpottinger Road area.

The victim received puncture wounds to his neck. He was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

He was later released on bail pending further inquiries.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Police would ask anyone who may have witnessed these incidents or who has any information to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.

"Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
