Two robbed in street by masked and armed men

By Lisa Smyth

Two men have been threatened by masked men carrying suspected firearms in a terrifying street robbery.

The victims, aged in their 40s and 50s, were not injured but were left shaken by their ordeal, according to a PSNI spokesman.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim, shortly after midnight on Saturday.

The two men were walking along Carnhill Place at about 12.10am when they were confronted by two masked men, who they believed were both carrying firearms.

They threatened the two men and forced them to hand over their wallets, before making off in the direction of Oakfield Drive.

Detective Constable Sweeney from Larne Reactive and Organised Crime Branch is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or anyone who knows anything about the robbery, to come forward by ringing the non emergency police telephone number, 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
