Two women have died in separate road crashes in counties Down and Antrim.

A woman in her 50s was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Lisnevenagh Road between Antrim and Ballymena last night.

She was driving a Ford car that was involved in a collision with a BMW shortly before 8.45pm.

The man driving the BMW was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Earlier in the day a woman in her 70s sustained fatal injuries in a three-vehicle collision on Springvale Road in Ballyhalbert.

She was a passenger in a yellow Peugeot 107 that was involved in a crash with a grey Volkswagen Golf and a black Toyota Hilux at around 4.30pm.

The drivers of the cars were not reported to be injured.

Police have appealed for witnesses to both crashes to come forward.
