Two young Northern Ireland women stabbed while out walking - teen arrested

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of offences including attempted murder after two women were stabbed in Northern Ireland.

The women, both aged 22, were attacked while walking close to Beresford Avenue, in Coleraine, at around 11.25pm on Sunday.

They were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that while serious are not believed to be life threatening at present.

The arrested 17-year-old male was detained a short time later and remains in custody at present.

SDLP MLA John Dallat expressed his revulsion at the incident.

"I wish the two girls a speedy recovery and hope that they receive the counselling they will undoubtedly need to cope with this dreadful experience," he said.

Inspector David Jennings said: "We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area and who witnessed the incident or who noticed two males running away. Officers can be contacted by calling 101, quoting reference 1220 13/01/19.”
