Tyrone minor GAA star Sean Hackett faces jury for killing father

A former captain of the Tyrone minor GAA team is to stand trial accused of murdering his father.

Sean Hackett will appear at Belfast Crown Court at a later date charged with killing Aloysius Hackett in January.

The 19-year-old is further charged with two counts of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Mr Hackett (60) was found shot dead at the family home at Aghindarragh Road near Augher on January 4.

His son was later arrested and charged with his murder.

Yesterday Hackett appeared at Dungannon Magistrates Court where he was remanded in custody to appear at Belfast Crown Court on a date to be fixed.

A second man was also returned for trial on charges connected to the case.

Ronan Mulrine (18), from Dunroe Road in Augher, is charged with two counts off possessing a firearm in suspicious circumstances without a certificate and perverting the course of justice.

He was remanded on his own bail of £200 to appear at Belfast Crown Court at a future date.
