Tyrone pensioner Devlin to stand trial on historical sex offences

By Staff Reporter

A 70-year-old man from Co Tyrone is to stand trial in relation to charges of historical sexual offences against two female children, allegedly committed 26 years ago.

John Francis Devlin, of Canal Place, Coalisland, is accused of four counts of indecent assault in April 1992. Three of the allegations relate to one of the injured parties, whilst there is a single count involving the second.

Appearing at Dungannon Magistrates' Court yesterday, Devlin spoke only to confirm he understood the charges. He declined to call witnesses or give evidence on his own behalf during the short hearing.

A prosecuting lawyer advised the court there is a case to answer, which was agreed by District Judge John Meehan.

He remanded Devlin on £200 bail and ordered him to appear for arraignment at Dungannon Crown Court on May 18.
