By Rebecca Black

Staff and pupils at the Royal School in Dungannon are reeling this morning following the sudden death of a teenager described as "talented, beautiful and caring".

David Shrestha (14) was found dead at his home in the Bush area of Dungannon.

He was a Year 11 student at the Royal School in the Co Tyrone town, where he was a talented sportsman excelling at rugby and swimming, and was popular among his peers.

The PSNI said: "Police attended the sudden death of a teenage boy in Dungannon on Saturday morning.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious."

David will be laid to rest at Tullanisken Parish Church, Newmills, following a funeral service this afternoon at St Anne's Parish Church in Dungannon.

The Royal School said in a statement: "Our thoughts and prayers are with David's family at this difficult time."

It opened yesterday afternoon, where staff and counsellors were available to talk to pupils upset by the tragic news.

All school rugby activity on Saturday morning was cancelled as a mark of respect.

A post on the school rugby club's page said: "We learned today (Saturday) of the passing of RSD pupil David Shrestha Y11. Our thoughts and prayers are with David's family at this difficult time."

Other Royal School sports clubs echoed these sentiments, while the Royal School Dungannon Parent Friends and Teacher Association also paid respects to David and his family on Facebook.

Its post said: "The PFTA group extend their most sincere condolences to the Shrestha family on the loss of their wonderful son and brother David."

Meanwhile, a post on Dungannon Rugby Club's page spoke of sadness in the wider community outside the school as well.

"All at Dungannon RFC would like to extend their sympathy to the Shrestha family at this sad time.

"The family is well-known at Dungannon and David will be sadly missed in the blue and white. The family is in our thoughts and prayers."

Many tributes have been paid to the teenager on social media, with one woman commenting: "Devastated to lose such a talented, beautiful, caring young man. My thoughts and prayers to the entire family circle and friends. His beautiful smile will always be with us."

A man commented: "RIP David, the boys are shocked and heartbroken, they thought very highly of David, thoughts are with all of David's family and friends at this very sad time."

Ulster Unionist MLA Rosemary Barton described it as a heartbreaking time in the local area. "My deepest sympathies go out to the Shrestha family and all friends and staff at the Royal School, Dungannon," she said.

David is survived by his parents Abraham and Kate, and siblings Grace, Jono and Sarah.
