A Belfast woman is calling on people across the country to sign up for a charity event.

The Northern Ireland Walk for Parkinson's takes place on Lagan Tow Path on June 9 and is part of a series aiming to raise more than £600,000 for Parkinson's UK's pioneering research.

Una McCarney (52) will be taking part because her brother Willie was diagnosed with Parkinson's five years ago.

He will join her on the Belfast walk and the siblings hope that people of all ages, abilities and fitness levels will also take part.

Una said: "When my brother Willie was diagnosed, initially we thought it was terrible.

"But he pointed out himself that it could have been worse and that he still had a future ahead of him."
