Union flag protester Bryson bailed

One of the leading Union flag protesters has been released on bail subject to several strict conditions.

Jamie Bryson (23) - who was charged with a series of offences earlier this month - was awarded bail at Belfast Magistrates' Court this afternoon, it has been reported.

Among the conditions of his release the Donaghadee man - who chairs the Ulster Peoples' Forum set up in the wake of the protests - cannot make public speeches, give interviews or use social media in relation to flag issues and is required to report to a police station each day.

He faces charges of encouraging or assisting offences and taking part in an un-notified public procession.

There have been protests in Belfast and across Northern Ireland since December, when Belfast City Council voted to fly the Union flag over the City Hall on designated days.
