Unused properties in every part of Northern Ireland

The Belfast region, which includes the Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council area, has the highest number of empty homes - over 300 are located here.

The Housing Executive has 6,157 people registered as homeless and 8,590 registered as in housing stress in this area.

Figures seen by this newspaper show there are 205 actionable properties which have been lying vacant, including 86 flats and 85 houses. The most common reason is that they are "difficult to let" (87 properties) followed by major change of tenancy repairs (66 properties).

A further 308 properties are vacant in the northern region, which covers the Londonderry and Strabane, Causeway Coast and Glens, Mid & East Antrim and Antrim and Newtownabbey council areas.
