The Upper Springfield Road in Belfast has reopened after police returned to the area to conduct further searches.

The PSNI said officers recovered a suspected firearm which was taken away for examination.

The road in west Belfast was closed in both directions on Wednesday at around 5pm before reopening at around 10.30pm.

Police carried out searches in the area and found nothing on Tuesday.
