Van driver punched in robbery

Two armed robberies took place in Londonderry within the space of just a few hours on Saturday.

A teenage van driver was punched in the head during an incident at around 9.30am on Saturday.

Two men opened the door of his delivery van in Fairview Road in Galliagh and assaulted him before stealing cash from a lodgment bag.

On Saturday evening two men armed with a hammer and what looked like a handgun forced staff at a bookies in Bishop Street to lie on the ground as they stole cash.

In the first incident one of the robbers was described as being around 6ft 2ins tall and was wearing a dark top, jeans and trainers.

The men who robbed the bookmakers were both wearing hoodies, one grey and one red.

Police have said there is no indication the robberies are linked.
