A van has been hijacked following an incident in east Belfast.

It happened in the Albertbridge Road area of the city shortly after 12.30pm on Tuesday.

Police receive a report that while a man was sitting in his van an unknown male got into the passenger seat and told him to drive to Witham Street, located nearby just off of the Newtownards Road.

Once there the man demanded money from the driver, which he snatched before taking off on foot.

Detective Sergeant Corrigan said: “This man is described as being approximately 6’ tall, aged in his 40’s of stocky build.  He was wearing jeans and a dark designer hoody up around his face.  It is believed he spoke with a local accent.

"I would appeal to anyone who has any information that would assist police with their enquiries to contact detectives at Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 520 21/08/18."

Alternatively information can be given to independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
