Vandals and weather batter Dark Hedges

By Brett Campbell

This was the sorry scene as poor Easter weather and vandalism took its toll on one of Northern Ireland's best-loved tourist hotspots.

Grass verges around the Dark Hedges in Co Antrim were turned to mud by traffic congestion, made worse by the heavy rain which hit the area this week.

It follows graffiti painted on road signs over the weekend.

The site on Bregagh Road, near Armoy, has become a major tourist attraction after featuring in the Game of Thrones series.

Photos show how the roadside has been ripped up by vehicles - despite cars being banned - with tyre marks dug into the ground.
