A viable device has been found during a security alert in north Belfast.

A police drone was used to assist officers during the operation.

Army bomb experts were sent to the scene in the Jamaica Street area on Monday afternoon.

The device has been taken away for further examination.

A number of homes had been evacuated and roads closed for a time.

All areas have since re-opened and residents allowed to return.

A police spokesperson said, "The use of an Unmanned Aerial System assisted in this clearance operation and minimised disruption to the local community by bringing the incident to a safe and satisfactory conclusion.".
