A video has emerged on social media of a man kicking a dog and assaulting members of the public in Belfast city centre.

Police confirmed the incident happened on Thursday and made one arrest.

"Fortunately there was a police patrol from Lisburn Road PSNI in the area and the male suspect was arrested after making a terrible attempt to get away," said a police constable on Facebook.

At around 5.20pm police received a report of a busker being harassed before his money was taken and his Jack Russell kicked.

It's thought the man tripped over his own feet and hit a telegraph pole as he attempted to flee the scene.

The incident was filmed and then posted on social media. The post has since been removed.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of a number of offences, including disorderly behaviour and cruelty to animals.

Officers appealed for any witnesses and specifically the owner of the video to make contact on 101 quoting reference 1492 06.06.2019.
