Video: Fire breaks out at Northern Ireland beach - 35 firefighters tackling blaze

A fire has broken out at a Northern Ireland beach.

Firefighters are battling the blaze among the dunes at Benone Strand at Magilligan.

It started just before 1pm on Tuesday and seven fire appliances are at the scene from Limavady, Coleraine, Dungiven, Ballymoney, Crescent Link and Maghera Fire Stations with 35 firefighters working to put it out.

Witnesses described seeing large plumes of smoke billow across the seven mile stretch of the beach. Large areas have been left scorched by the fire.

The incident is ongoing.
