Video: Investigation after mass brawl erupts outside Belfast night club

By Jonathan Bell

A man was arrested after a mass brawl erupted outside a Belfast nightclub.

Police responded to a report of the brawl outside Ollie's on Waring Street involving "between 50 and 60 people" just before 2am on Sunday.

A one-minute video of the brawl has been circulating online. It shows around 15 people involved in confrontations.

One man can be seen falling to the ground holding his head before a group stumble and fall over him. A woman can also be seen trying to hold back a shirtless man.

At one stage a man dressed in dark clothing is seen grabbing one girl and slamming her head against a wall.

Thousands have watched the incident.

"Shocking," said one man.

"Unreal," said another.

"It's an absolute disgrace," said another.

Ollie's said it was carrying out its own investigation into the matter.

Police were on the scene for around an hour dealing with the situation.

They arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest.

He was later arrested in connection with an assault at Musgrave police station.

He was released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

A spokesperson for Ollie’s nightclub said: “We take the safety of our staff and customers very seriously. As responsible operators within the licensed trade for over 35 years, we are committed to providing a safe environment for our patrons and staff.

“We are aware of an incident outside the premises on Saturday night and are investigating this matter internally.”
