Viral Irish dance video - meet the Lords of the jig whose wedding routine became online sensation

By Amanda Ferguson

A crowd of men spontaneously Irish dancing at a Belfast wedding sounds like a disaster in the making – but not when the 'feet of flames' involved belong to professional hoofers.

An online clip of Rob Wilson and Mairead McCargo's reception at the Ramada Hotel in Belfast has gone viral after current and former cast members of Lord Of The Dance took to the floor on their wedding day to treat guests to an impromptu performance.

It has so far been viewed more than 100,000 times since being placed online.

Rob and Mairead are professional Irish dance teachers at The Matthews Academy of Irish Dancing in Coventry, as well as being former cast members of Lord Of The Dance.

They both toured with Michael Flatley's hit production for eight years, with Belfast-born Mairead becoming one of its principal dancers.

Rob's nephew Conor Flower, who features in the heart-warming wedding video, said contrary to some reports, the group dance involving around 30 males guests was not planned as such.

"It was all pretty spur of the moment," Conor said. "It wasn't rehearsed for weeks or anything – the lads are all cast members of Lord Of The Dance and they just kind of decided to do it."

Groom Rob started dancing at a young age and is qualified TCRG – someone who has passed the Irish Dancing Teacher's examination and is recognised by An Coimisiun Le Rinci Gaelacha as having been awarded that noted distinction.

During a successful dancing career under the tutelage of Danny Doherty, Rob achieved top 10 placings at major competitions and numerous world championships and all-Ireland first places at ceili and figure dancing.

Bride Mairead began dancing at the age of seven for The Kennedy School of Irish Dancing in Belfast.

After a successful career competing at all levels, including numerous world championships in both solo and ceili categories, Mairead joined Lord Of The Dance aged 19.

Touring and training with the show for eight years, Mairead performed one of the female lead roles.

After retiring from performing, Mairead also gained her TCRG qualification and joined the Matthews Academy team.

The Coventry-based couple are currently on honeymoon in Cape Verde.

Rachel Hunter: "I've loved Lord Of The Dance since I was a little girl and I am hardly ever impressed easily when it comes to live entertainment and I can even be as big a judge as Simon Cowell himself! LOL. I think even Michael Flatley would be proud."

Maureen Gillespie: "Fantastic"

Samara Sami: "Soooooooo amazing I want that on my wedding "

Maree Duffy: "Irish weddings the guys are raising the bar here!!"

Michael Coners: "#awesome really wow"
