Vote for the Giant’s Causeway - and Northern Ireland could win £1million Heathrow ad campaign

Just 900 Facebook likes stand between Northern Ireland and a £1 million advertising campaign at Heathrow.

The airport, one of the most well-known and busiest in the world, is asking the public to vote in a Facebook competition for their favourite area of outstanding beauty around the UK.

The Giant’s Causeway, one of NI’s best loved beauty spots, is up against Hadrian's Wall in the North East of England, Western Fells in the North West of England and Anne Hathaway’s cottage in the midlands.

The region that gets the most Facebook "likes" will receive a £1 million advertising campaign at Heathrow airport.

On Monday afternoon the Giant's Causeway had around 11,600 likes, sitting behind Hadrian's Wall at 12,500.

The Northern Ireland Tourist Board's Destination Marketing and PR Manager, Ruth Burns, said: “We are encouraging everyone to go online and vote for the Giant’s Causeway in this fantastic competition. There are so many stunning beauty spots and locations all over Northern Ireland and this is a great opportunity to showcase them to people from all over the world at Heathrow airport.

“The advertising campaign would be a great way of encouraging people to come to Northern Ireland to experience everything that we have on offer here from the world renowned warm welcome of the locals and array of things to see and do, to the delicious local cuisine and vibrant nightlife.

“The Giants Causeway is a breathtaking sight to see and is steeped in history and heritage so we really feel that is deserves to win. We are urging everyone to vote and share the competition as widely as possible making sure they tell their friends and family to vote too,” added Ruth.

The competition closes August 4.
