Wanted killer Samuel McKinley located in Belfast

A convicted killer who has been on the run for almost four months has been located in north Belfast.

Samuel McKinley who is serving a life sentence for stabbing his friend to death during a drinking session, disappeared while on day release from Maghaberry prison on December 22.

McKinley failed to return to the high security jail after being temporarily freed on a pre-release work scheme.

The 53-year-old will be returned to the prison later this afternoon.

Detective Inspector Jenna Fitzpatrick said: “I can confirm that police have apprehended Samuel McKinley, the 53 year old male who failed to return to the custody of the Northern Ireland Prison Service on 22 December 2014.

"He was located in the North Belfast area just after 5am this morning, 10 March 2015.

“He will be returned to prison later today.

“A file will be forwarded to the PPS for review.”
