Warning after man's 'suspicious approach' in Derry

Parents in Londonderry have been urged to monitor their children’s whereabouts after an incident in the Glen area of the city.

Police have confirmed that three young children were playing in the street at Glenview Avenue when a man approached them, acting suspiciously.

He was driving a black Toyota, which it is believed had a taxi sign on the roof. The incident occurred near a number of schools on Tuesday at around 4pm.

The man is described as middle-aged, with grey hair and was wearing a blue shirt and black trousers.

SDLP councillor for the Glen area, John Boyle, has appealed to parents and guardians to be extra vigilant following the incident.

He said: “Any report of a suspicious approach involving children is of considerable concern to me.

“People living in the Glen and Rosemount areas are deeply worried about this incident.

“I therefore appeal to all parents to be extra vigilant and to know where their children are at all times.”

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call Police on 0845 600 8000.
