A judge has issued an arrest warrant for a registered sex offender who is accused of threatening to kill a Sinn Fein MLA.
District Judge Eamon King heard that Paul Druse (45) is in prison in Roscommon with a release date of December 9, but issued a bench warrant for his arrest despite defence submissions.
Druse, of no fixed abode, had been ordered to appear at Newry Magistrates Court yesterday, but failed to do so. Defence counsel Conor Byrne revealed he is being held in Castlerea Prison.
In addition to being charged with threatening to kill Sinead Ennis on November 12 2018, Druse is also accused of threatening to destroy her offices and pursuing a course of conduct against the South Down MLA which amounted to harassment.
Druse is also charged with breaching the requirements of the sex offenders register on June 7 last year by failing to notify his address to police and causing criminal damage to a police vehicle on May 22 this year. As part of bail conditions, Druse is barred from contacting the MLA and from entering Warrenpoint.
