Watch: Belfast man's romantic proposal at Dublin Airport - with the help of some Bruno Mars

By Claire Williamson

Love was all around at Dublin Airport this week as a Belfast man got down on one knee - with the help of some Bruno Mars - to propose.

It's the last thing you expect when you step off a plane - to be greeted by your family, Bruno Mars blaring on a speaker and an engagement ring.

But Belfast man Hugh Booth (51) gave his new fiancee Kate (52) the surprise of her life as she arrived at Dublin airport from Spain where he was poised and ready to give his partner of five years a moment she would remember forever.

Hugh told daughter Aine on Tuesday that he was going to propose and at first she didn't believe him but soon she, along with her two brothers, sister and brother's girlfriend, were on their way to the airport from Belfast for the big moment.

They had a nervous wait for three hours at the airport. Aine said her dad didn't sit down once during the wait.

Aine and her sister took on the the role of DJ and played the Bruno Mars' hit Marry You as Kate came into view.

She told the Belfast Telegraph: "She (Kate) had no clue about it. We travelled down and waited three hours on her and he couldn't sit down whatsoever.

"He's usually quite calm but not for things like that.

"Me and my sister played Bruno Mars Marry You and he proposed. He told her: 'I've never seen a woman so beautiful and caring like you. I can't explain how much I love you'.

"She cried and was very shocked. He proposed with a toy ring because he didn't know her ring size but she finally got a ring yesterday.

"Lots of people gathered around and joined in singing the song, it was brilliant."

Aine says her dad keeps laughing when they tell him he's gone viral and simply says "Brilliant".
