Watch: Pod of dolphins swim alongside lifeboat team

Lifesavers from Donaghadee Lifeboat got a welcome surprise on Sunday morning while out on an engine run near to the Copeland Islands off the coast of Co Down.

During the run, a pod of dolphins began to keep pace with the boat.

A video posted to Facebook showing the dolphins swimming has been viewed more than 12,000 times and shared more than 240 times.

Whilst out on an engine run this morning we came across a large pod of dolphins around the horse point/ Copeland Sound. Must be plenty of fish around! An amazing sight 🙂 #rnli #donaghadeelifeboat #bbcnewsline

The Donaghadee Lifeboat station has been in place for more than 100 years, and currently is home to the Saxon, a Trent Class lifeboat that costs around £1.3 million.
