Watch: Road workers use Lorry to smooth pavement fix - 'waste of time' says councillor

Video has emerged of road workers using a lorry to apply a smooth finish to their fix on a pot-holed pavement.

The footage was reported by the news organisation, the Armagh i.

Shot from a nearby property on the Armagh Road, Keady, it shows a Transport NI lorry repeatedly drive over the pavement in order to flatten the asphalt instead of a steam roller.

SDLP councillor Thomas O'Hanlon said the work was a "complete waste of time, effort and money". He said the path was in a terrible state to begin with and argued it was worse after the repair job.

“Now instead of potholes in the footpath, we have lumps of tar with tyre marks on it. It’s very poor and must be revisited and repaired properly.

"Do rightly won't do."

He said he had contacted Transport NI, which had assured him it was a temporary fix.

A Department for Infrastructure spokesman said the work was not how it should have been carried out.

"When repairing a local surface defect, staff are trained to compact the repair material using a mechanical roller. The Department is currently investigating the incident,” he added.
