Watch the terrifying moment armed man holds up Carryduff petrol station

By Claire Cromie

Police have released CCTV footage showing the moment an armed man robbed a Carryduff petrol station.

Staff were terrified when Robert Cameron, 41, burst into the Hillsborough Road filling station with a gun in July 2013.

The video appears to show him pushing a customer out of the way before he thrusts a blue bag at the staff member behind the counter.

Viewers then see the worker emptying the contents of the till into the bag.

Cameron has been handed a six-year jail sentence for robbery - three years of which will be served on licence - and a five-year sentence, to run consecutively, in relation to possession of a firearm.

Chief Inspector Derek McCamley said: “I welcome the sentence for this robbery. The hard work of the officers involved in this investigation has led to this person being brought before the court and dealt with in this way.

“I hope that this provides reassurance and confidence in the community that police are proactively tackling crime in the Castlereagh area and bringing those responsible to justice.

“This was a terrifying experience for those in the premises at the time and this sentence should serve as a warning to deter others from committing such crime.”
