Watchdog inquiry into Belfast's Morning Star homeless shelter
Northern Ireland's charity watchdog has launched an inquiry into Belfast homeless shelter Morning Star House.
In a statement on Thursday, the Charity Commission said the inquiry was related to concerns "regarding the governance and administration of the charity, with a focus on safeguarding".
It added it will not be making any further comment while the investigation is ongoing.
Specific details of what the investigation relates to have not been released.
The Charity Commission has the power to open a statutory inquiry to identify and investigate apparent misconduct or mismanagement at a charity.
Depending on the outcome of the inquiry the Commission has a range of protective and remedial powers it can use, and a report on its inquiry will be published on its website.
The Morning Star Hostel declined to comment when contacted by the Belfast Telegraph on Thursday morning.
