A yellow weather warning has been issued for Northern Ireland with heavy showers and thunderstorms forecast.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Northern Ireland with heavy showers and thunderstorms forecast for Thursday.

It comes into effect in the afternoon and will continue into the evening, with a chance of flooding to homes and businesses.

The areas affected are widespread, with warnings issued for counties Antrim, Armagh, Down, Tyrone and Londonderry.

The forecaster is warning of a chance of traffic delays, some cancellations to train and bus services and difficult driving conditions.

There is also a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life

A yellow weather warning has been issued for Northern Ireland with heavy showers and thunderstorms forecast.

Whilst many areas will miss the heaviest rain, where heavy showers and thunderstorms do develop they will be slow-moving bringing the potential for 20-30 mm of rain in an hour and 40-50 mm in 2-3 hours, according to a spokesperson.

It will also affect areas of the north of England and Scotland.

Showers and thunderstorms will gradually die out during Thursday evening.
