West Belfast security alert ends after suspicious object removed

A security alert in west Belfast has ended after police removed a suspicious object from the area.

Residents were evacuated from their homes in the Glenalina Gardens area after the object was discovered on Monday morning.

ATO examined a the object before removing it for further examination.

All roads in the area have now reopened and residents allowed to return to their homes.

Sinn Fein MLA Pat Sheehan said the incident had caused "disruption and inconvenience for the local community".

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact officers in Woodbourne Police Station on 101 quoting reference 233 22/07/19. 

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
