Willie Frazer targeted by trolls as he lies seriously ill in hospital
Victims’ campaigner Willie Frazer — who is critically ill in hospital — is being targeted by a legion of internet trolls.
A torrent of foul online abuse has been directed at the Armagh man after his family revealed his life was “in God’s hands”.
And Ulster Unionist MLA Doug Beattie has asked police and the Southern Health Trust to investigate after a photo of Mr Frazer in his hospital bed was posted online.
“Willie Frazer was a victim of our Troubles, and was shaped by them,” Mr Beattie said. “My thoughts are with him and his family. I hope he can pull through this.”
The poster ‘Sam’ has since removed the image.
It’s understood that Mr Frazer has suffered multiple organ failure, and is in the intensive care unit of Craigavon Area Hospital.
Mr Frazer (58), leader of Markethill-based victims’ group the Family Research and Policy Unit (FRPU), has battled ill health for several years and was diagnosed with cancer in 2010.
Five of his close family — including his father — were murdered during the Troubles.
Loyalist blogger Jamie Bryson slammed the abuse. He posted: “Some of the posts around William Frazer, including the sick scumbags posting private images of the man in hospital online, are absolutely reprehensible.”
Some online messages also claimed that Mr Frazer had died.
“William Frazer has not passed away,” Mr Bryson posted. “He fights on.”
