Woman (19) found with stab wounds after assault - man arrested

A 19-year-old woman is being treated in hospital after suffering stab wounds to her arm, body and neck in an assault in Newtownards.

It happened at a house in the Thomas Street area at around 12.45pm on Saturday.

Detective Sergeant Joy Fitzgerald said: “Upon arrival they found a 19-year-old female with stab wounds to her arm, body and neck.

“She was taken to hospital for treatment to these injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening at this time.

“A male who made off from the property was detained by police a short distance away. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have information which could help with our investigation, to contact detectives at the Public Protection Unit in Newtownards on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference  541 of 20/01/18.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
