A 19-year-old woman was left in hospital after what was described as a "vicious and sustained" attack at a Tyrone petrol station on Christmas night.

The attack happened at the petrol station on Moy Road and its junction with Gortmerron Link Road just after midnight on December 26.

Police said several people were in the petrol station at the time of the incident.

The incident caused widespread revulsion in the community with many taking to social media expressing concern for the victim.

Police were urged to post CCTV images of those involved.

Jeanette Graham added: "Dungannon is not safe to walk home at night."

Kirsty Lawson offered her best wishes to the victim.

"What is wrong with people," Eileen McDonald added.

Police, in a Facebook post added: "On viewing the CCTV footage of the assault, we are keen to speak to several people who were on the forecourt and in particular a male who approaches the suspect during the assault.

"Please call 101 or drop us a [private message]. The incident reference number is 657 26.12.19."
