Woman (29) arrested over suspected human trafficking in Newry

A 29-year-old woman has been arrested under suspicion of human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Newry.

Officers from the Modern Slavery Human Trafficking Unit along with local police, made the arrest in the Tandragee Road area on Saturday.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking for sexual exploitation, controlling prostitution and money-laundering.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Bell said: "The arrest is part of a proactive investigation into human trafficking for sexual exploitation and the activities of a criminal gang we believe is operating in Northern Ireland.

"She remains in police custody, helping us with our enquiries."
