A woman has been charged by police in relation to the attempted murder of a man in Co Down at the weekend.

A man in his 20s was left in a critical condition with serious head injuries after what police described as a "brutal attack" at an address on Fernmore Road in Bangor.

A 38-year-old woman has since been charged with assisting offenders.

She is scheduled to appear before Newtownards Magistrates Court on March 31.

A 39-year-old man arrested on Tuesday morning remained in custody yesterday.

A 47-year-old man arrested on Sunday was questioned and subsequently released on police bail to return at a future date.

Detective Inspector Darren McCracken said: "Our enquiries into this brutal attack are progressing.
