Woman (50s) tied to bath during burglary in Carrickfergus

A woman in her 50s has been tied to a bath during a burglary in Carrickfergus.

The incident happened on Saturday night, with police receiving a report just before midnight of an incident at a house in the Paisley Road area.

Three men had gained entry where the female occupant was alone.

She had her wrists bound with cable ties and handcuffs and was taken to the bathroom where she was tied to the bath.

The burglars proceeded to steal a sum of cash and a number of pieces of jewellery.

Detective Sergeant Pete Crothers said: “She was eventually able to free herself and raised the alarm at 12.45am. Although she wasn’t physically hurt in the incident, the woman was left badly shaken.

“The three males were all described as wearing dark clothing, with their faces covered and wearing gloves.

“We are appealing to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area between 11.30pm last night and 12.30am this morning, or who has any information that could help our investigation, to get in touch with us on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 69 of 27/5/18."
