Woman (70s) dies after weekend crash in Banbridge

Police have confirmed a woman has died following a two-vehicle car crash in Banbridge.

The collision happened at around 11.30am on Saturday on the Scarva Road and involved a black Seat Leon and a black Nissan Note.

The woman, aged in her 70s and from Co Wicklow, was a rear-seat passenger in the Nissan.

She was taken to hospital following the crash but died as a result of her injuries.

A woman in her 80s who was also injured in the crash remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Following the crash, the Ambulance Service said four people were taken to hospital with one being transported by air ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital.

The three other patients were taken to Craigavon Area Hospital.

The PSNI said a woman aged 50 had been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily injury and was in custody assisting officers with their enquiries.

Officers have appealed to anyone who may have seen either vehicle being driven in the area on Saturday morning, or who witnessed the collision to contact them at Armagh on 101 quoting reference number 546 11/11/17.
