Woman (94) and man (88) targeted by burglars

A 94 year old woman and an 88 year old man were targeted in two separate burglaries this Monday lunchtime, November 22.

In both cases the villain pretended to check plumbing.

The first incident happened at about 12.45pm when a man in his 20s called to the door of a house in the Knockvale Park area. He told the elderly occupant that he needed to check the drains and asked him to turn on taps in the kitchen. He did this and the stranger went to the rear of the property before leaving with the man’s wallet.

The caller is described as being 5ft 10in tall, with a southern accent. and wearing a black top and dark, beanie type hat.

Just 15 minutes later, at 1pm, a man called to a house at Cabinhill Mews. He told the elderly householder that he needed to check taps. He entered the kitchen and asked the woman to turn on taps in the bathroom. When she returned he was gone, along with her handbag.

This male was about 17 years old, about 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall, and was wearing a woolly hat, grey jumper and blue jeans.

Police, who believe the crimes are linked, are on 0845 600 8000.
